1500 tonnes of structural steel has been fabricated for
the extension to the Austin Hospital carpark. The
new levels are built on top of an existing concrete
structure.
Page Steel chose to adopt bolted angle connections to
improve on fabrication efficiency. All drafting was performed in
house using Tekla Structures, and regular
updates of the 3D model had been posted to Page Steel Fabrications
web site for downloading by the client. The lower levels comprised
of custom made transfer beams with deep penetration 40mm & 25mm
plate. To aid in height clearance the main ramp beams
(610UB's) had a 16mm plate welded to the underside flange. Page
Steel worked with Walton Construction to come up with 21 stages to
enable efficient deliveries and erection. Lay down area was
extremly limited on this existing
working carpark, and each load of steel had to be
sequenced correctly.
